Set in a fictional Yorkshire town during the first world war.
Here many of the men too old or too young to fight are involved in the music society and their annual production.
This year the arrival of a new choirmaster, Dr Guthrie(Ralph Fiennes), causes some excitement and scandal.
He once lived in Germany, loves their music and literature.
An unsentimental but deeply felt drama written by Alan Bennet. A story of wit, poignancy and common sense.
